Opening
Night
Ohnward Fine Arts Center
December 17th, 2004

Gary Drew talking to the over 400 in attendance at the
speical Ohnward Fine Arts Center Recognition and Dedication Reception
and Program held Friday night, December 17, 2004
at the beautiful new center on East Platt Street.
The invited guests (volunteers and gift presenters)
were treated to finger food and refreshments from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. in the
Drew Art Gallery
(Ed Tubbs announced during the program that the lobby would be named after Gary)
and then everyone went into the Kopel Theatre for the recognition program.

This is a wide-angle view of the stage last night.
John Fagerland and Ed Tubbs to the left, the Drew Family to their left,
next Dr. Kopel and on the far right, and Don and Linda Powlistha.
Don honored for being the volunteer who gave the most volunteer hours to the
building of the center.

This photo, before the progam started, shows just how
large the stage is,
and how it was beautifully decorated for the Holidays.
The first big event on the large stage will be the
High School ADVENT SING on Saturday night, December 18th.
The sell-out event will reach nearly 1,000 people with additional chairs set
up.
All of these photos taken Friday night are by David Updegraph
of the Maquoketa State Bank, who is both the Human Services and Web Site director
for MSB
and its holding corporation, Ohnward Bank Corporation.

IN THE PHOTO ALSO IS PAT.

THIS PICTURE IS OF DR. JAMES KOPEL OF MOLINE,

AT BLACKHAWK COLLEGE IN ROCK ISLAND, AND GAVE $120,000.
HE ALSO HELPED IN BUILDING THE CENTER WHEN HE COULD MAKE IT UP TO MAQUOKETA.

THIS IS CARY BROCK OF MAQUOKETA,
WHO WITH HIS COMMITTEE, RAISED ENOUGH MONEY TO
BUY THREE PIANOS FOR THE CENTER

Gary Drew, with Dr. James Kopel of Moline
(who gave the first $120,000 for the center)
and
Don and Linda Powlistha of Maquoketa.
Don was the volunteer that worked the most hours on the center for over 4 years.
Dr. Kopel presented Don with a trip for two to Las Vegas as a gift from him.
The theatre part of the center (841 seats) is called the Kopel Theatre,
and a large portrait of him and his wife hangs on a rear wall at the theatre.
Mrs. Kopel was instrumental in the initial gift. She died earlier this year.
